Direct Support Professional

Designated Coordinator/Manager


This position is for someone who wants to make a difference in our residents' lives. As a DC you will oversee the program coordination of the 2 Wadena homes. You will assure each resident is provided with the guidance, encouragement, support, security and safety while working on their independent living skills. You will serve as their advocate for their health and wellness needs. You will monitor and administer medication and medical treatments.


You will be coordinating and working directly with the residents, their legal guardians, county workers, rep payees, medical professionals and RLS's support team members. You will be implementing and monitoring the residents plans, outcomes and guiding them to fulfill their goals, hopes and dreams.


You will be encouraging resident inclusion into their community through vocation, social events and volunteering opportunities.


The Designated Coordinator works with their team members with recruiting, training, and coaching. You will be responsible to maintain the required documentation and record keeping for the program, the residents and your team members.


This is a full-time position on mainly weekdays. You will need to work limited overnights, evenings, weekends and holidays. You will also need to remain on call for emergencies.

Position is available immediately.



  • College degree or diploma as required per state regulations

  • Two years of full-time work experience in providing direct care services

  • One year of experience in a supervisory role

  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

  • Reliable transportation

  • Successfully meet the requirements of a background check

  • CPR/First Aid certification can be obtained after hire.

What is it like to be a DSP?

I get this question a lot when I am asked where I work and what I do. My whole conversation kind of goes like this.

                  “…I am a direct service provider for an adult foster home. I have the most rewarding job working with the persons in our housing. My job as a DSP is all about helping people do their day to day life skills and try to better themselves. As a DSP we do activities like fishing, swimming, movies and sometimes sit around and just talk. The people I work with are awesome. I have great relations with them and it’s a “give respect get respect” life. I love helping people and that’s what I do. As a DSP you get trained in multiple areas to do the best you can with your job. We also have on-going training throughout the year to refresh your skills and give you a better opportunity to do your job. Yes, like any other job things can get stressful but it’s worth it in the end. When you see then accomplish something and you know you were part of that it’s all worth it. As for the ILS part of the job, we do daily skills like cooking, cleaning, personal needs shopping, budgeting, and education on medication to get them ready to be on their own one day.”
